Join Jewellery Maker Alex Thiel as she brings us with her on her jewllery making journey.
Alex is a goldsmith. She began her creative journey in her native Poland and found her creative home in Ireland. In 2017 Alex has been shortlisted in two major jewellery competitions, Royal Dublin Society (RDS) Craft Awards and Irish Made Awards by Irish Country Magazine. She graduated with a diploma in Arts from the National University of Ireland, Jewellery and Goldsmithing Skills and Jewellery Design Course. Alex specialises in giving new life to pre-loved jewellery. She is re-using old gems and precious metals in new designs, to create fine art jewellery.
In this short video Alex is presenting how to prepare a sterling silver ring shank to fit in a silver tube that will become a stone setting. Soldering is a process where two pieces of metal can be joined together by heating metal to a very high temperature with a use of a gas soldering torch. Hard silver solder needs a temperature of 780°C to become liquid which allows two or more pieces to join together.
This is a free event. No booking is required.
