As staffing is voluntary, please check before visiting by ringing 028 25922. Ballydehob emerged as a centre of arts activity in the early 1960s, with artists, craftworkers and writers settling in the rolling hills around the village and landscape of Roaringwater Bay.
The focus was The Flower House on the main street of the village, which became a gallery, shop and meeting place for the influx of artists The Ballydehob Arts Museum was set up in 2018 to celebrate the work of the artists’ community, and to establish a museum collection and documentary archive of the arts, crafts and literature produced both locally in the village and across West Cork for more than half a century, up to and including present day activities. It was decided that all work acquired for the collection would be by donation and that the collection would belong to the local community that had warmly welcomed so many strangers into its midst.
