CLAY AND CANVAS
4th–27th Aug
Opening Reception 4th Aug 5.30–7.30pm
The surface of ceramic objects have long since been a receptacle for mark making; working with slips and glazes, adding pigments and oxides and experimenting throughout the firing process, artists who work with clay employ painterly qualities to create abstract, landscape and figurative works.
Just like painters who use canvas as their surface, ceramic artists use clay to explore a myriad of concerns and interests. Clay and Canvas explores the work of contemporary Irish ceramic artists alongside painters and printmakers who also use texture, colour, form and narrative to tell their stories.
Ceramic artists featured in the exhibition include Sinead Fagan, Nanette Ledwith, Chloe Lennon, Andrew Ludick, Jane Seymour and Katherina Treml with paintings by Tom Climent and Rebecca Bradley, and drawings by Megan Eustace. Artists Katherine Boucher Beug, Emma O’Hara and Sarah Roseingrave exhibit both ceramic pieces and paintings, drawings and prints.
Produced by Lavit Gallery in association with Cork Craft Month 2022.
