TASTE FOR CRAFT: HEDERMAN’S AND CHARLIE MAHON CERAMICS

In a first for Cork Craft Month, Cork Craft and Design Members and The English Market Traders are to collaborate on the synchronicities between both Craft Industries. This Collaborative Event will take place across the social media platforms of both Maker and Trader. The sixth collaboration will feature Hederman’s Craft Smoked Mackerel and Charlie Mahon Ceramics.

Hederman’s Smoked Salmon is a first generation artisan producer of smoked wild and organic salmon, which they have been producing in Ireland’s only authentic timber smokehouse for nearly forty years. This company hangs their exclusively Irish fish in a particular way over beechwood in order to produce tender and deliciously balanced smoked fish that can be found on menus such as Rick Stein’s, and found in food halls such as Selfridges, Fortnum & Mason, as well as the English Market. They pride themselves on their range of smoked products including fish and seafood, as well as fish pates, crushes, salads, fishcakes and chowders. Hederman’s Smoked Salmon is rated by top chefs and well known food writers around the world, however they still say their most valued and appreciated feedback comes from their clients. You can find more on their delicious products here.

Having practised ceramic art for years, in 2004 Charlie Mahon tried his hand at production pottery and found it thoroughly enjoyable. Hard graft yes, but very gratifying. Unfortunately 2008 happened and it was 2016/17 before he was able to put together enough money to come forward with my new ideas. Since then the Charlie Mahon Ceramics brand has been growing. The Mackerel came about from a jaunt on a family outing, fishing for mackerel in Glengarriff. The ‘Mackerel’ are hand crafted ceramic pottery made from white earthenware clay, glazed (made with a secret recipe), hand painted – mackerel – re-fired. The end product is a luxurious cream with beautifully hand drawn fish in colours that resemble the truth but add to the depth and fun of the product. All of his work is handmade, hand- painted, kiln fired and made in Cork.

You can catch Charlie Mahon Ceramics on the Cork Craft and Design website. You can also check out his Instagram page here.

In this exciting Collaboration we see the beauty of Craft and Craft food combined. Don’t miss this collaboration of Hederman’s Craft Smoked Mackerel and Charlie Mahon Ceramics.
