My Story

Jim qualified with a degree in Ceramic Design from Camberwell School of Art & Design, London. He has lived in West Cork for over 30 years sharing a studio with Etain Hickey. A former part-time lecturer on sculpture and ceramics in Rossa College, (Cork College of Commerce Campus), Skibbereen. Jim has led many workshops for ‘Ceramics Ireland’ and ‘Society of Cork Potters’. Jim has exhibited extensively, both nationally and internationally. An award winner of the Crafts Council of Ireland ‘Excellence in Making’ award and the Irish Contemporary Ceramics Award, his work is in many collections, including the Crafts Council of Ireland and the Office of Public Works. In 2010 Jim did a residency in Jingdezhen China, the porcelain capital of the world.  He was a selector for 17 Prime Makers, Irish/Welsh exhibition in Aberystwyth and Farmleigh House and curated a contemporary ceramics exhibition, ‘Out of this Earth’ in the Blue House Gallery, Schull, June 2019. Currently he is curating an exhibition by four potters of domestic/functional ceramics, ‘Clay Maketh Man’, for the Blue House Gallery for June 2020.
